Blue Moon Dance Company is the premier tribal style belly dance troupe of North Carolina’s Triangle region. Featuring an eclectic fusion of globally inspired dance and music styles, Blue Moon Dance Company is renowned for its mesmerizing movements, exotic rhythms, lush textiles, innovative choreographies and creative live music.
Blue Moon has been a featured performer at major events throughout the country; troupe members teach many ongoing classes and regular workshops, and it is renowned for sponsoring truly innovative belly dance parties and performances which are so popular that they often sell out well in advance.
Blue Moon’s unique history is that it has evolved from consisting of 3 novice dancers who were drawn to the community spirit of this style of belly dance into a seasoned dance company of musicians and dancers comprised solely of members several families- wives and husbands, mothers and fathers, daughters and sons- who now dance, drum and dream together in this labor of love.
Through their performances and classes, Blue Moon strives to demonstrate not only their versatility and talent, but also their great love of this dance and of each other. One of the troupe’s most important missions is to educate the community about the history and culture of this dance form while performing community service whenever possible.
Over the past few years, Blue Moon has volunteered their services for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Girl Scouts of the USA, Youthville, USA, as well as other local and regional youth and community groups. The troupe has also sponsored fund-raising events for the American Red Cross, TurtleWill, and, most recently, for Mercy Corps’ efforts to aid the women and children of the war-ravaged Darfur region of the Sudan in Africa for which they received a commendation for the amount of money they raised.
Blue Moon strives to continually grow as artists, educators, community members and most of all, as members of a beautiful extended family. The troupe is happy and proud to be presenting a seminar in Morganton, and hopes that its efforts to entertain and inform this wonderful community will reflect Blue Moon’s joy in the dance and its commitment to excellence in all that it does.
