For two years now Asali, Director of the Aseelah Dancers has put on a wonderful show and fundraiser called Evening in the Orient. Rising Sun Tribe has been honored to have been a part of both events.
The August 16, 2008 event turned out to be a little different than youR average show. It started out as usual. Hanging out backstage getting ready for the show. Making new friends in the bellydance community, and greeting old ones. Watching the show from the sidelines as we cheered each other on.
And then in the first performance after the intermission, the fire alarm went off. Naturally, being belly dancers we didn't want to leave. THERE IS NO NEED TO LEAVE A PERFORMANCE IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE FIRE OR SMELL THE SMOKE!!!
So we all reluctanly left the building to wait and see what happened. We were quite downhearted at the mere thought of the show being canceled.
But like the troopers we all are, when the fire department showed up we did what any group of big hams would do. We all decided "What a great photo op" The fire department will never be the same. It all turned out ok in the end. We got back in, and the show went on!
